What are the benefits of practicing yoga?

Yoga is a complete discipline that engages mind, body and soul. Using the breath (pranayama) body (asana) and mind withdrawal/meditation (pratyahara) we follow a practice that enables one to find fullfillment within. Most of us look to other things in the world for happiness, health and fulfillment yet all we need is right within us.

The asana practice is used to purify the body yet must be performed with complete awareness otherwise you are just doing gymnastics or contortionism! There are many benefits of yoga, each will be of different importance to the individual. The number one for me is, actually I can't decide, is it the fact that it helps me sleep, improves my relationships with others, encourages me to live a healthy life, perfects my posture, improves my cardiovascular system or that it gives me inner strength and improves my focus?

These are just a few of the benefits I have experienced come and join me in a class and see what yoga brings to you, perhaps it will improve your muscle strength and flexibility, lower you blood pressure, or lower depression symptoms by increasing your heart rate? 

Other benefits include: Improves your self-esteem, protects the spine, improves blood flow, betters bone health, drains lymphs and boosts immunity, improves balance, makes you happier through an increase of serotonin levels, relaxes your system so you find it easier to destress an calm down, gives you inner strength whilst building awareness for transformation. I could carry on but I think you get the idea that yoga is the way forward. Yoga works with minimum effort and maximum gain unlike ordinary excercises where you have to put in maximum effort with little gain. There is no stress or strain on the body yet we still up our heart rate, imporove our cardiovascular sytem, build muscle strength and improve flexibility. An all round winner I'd say!
